YAY !
I iz back from Kuching. I had a wonderful time. Had a few KL friends down so I was the official tour guide.
We stayed at this place called Nomad Bed and Breakfast, at Jalan Green Hill. Damn cool place. Got some fantastic ppl working there. All we’re so friendly and helpful. And all were Iban except 1.
So anyways, some of us arrived on Thursday. I myself and a friend landed on Thursday morning. Walked around my neigbourhood to cari makan and have a look around at my area
That night 4 others arrived. In true Sarawakian fashion, we started drinking after everyone finished unpacking.
Next morning we met up with my brother from another mother to eat laksa. from laksa we headed to town and walked around. Took the sampan across the river *everyone who goes to kuching needs to do this*.
Walked down the waterfront. Walked and skodenged souverniers and "souveniers" along the Main Bazaar.
Walk around town being the tourists that we were. Take pix here and there. Walked back and got ready for the Rainforest World Music Festival being held at Sarawak Cultural Village.
Unfortunately, the night was raining like hell. and there was a jam, so the bus couldn’t get to the entrance. So we made a run for it…..or rather a slow walk. we figured, screw it, we were going to get wet anyway. When we got in, the wind was blowing like crazy, and mind u we were all soaked from head to toe, and we were freezing ! So we bought 1 of those plastic ponchos to protect ourselves from the biting wind. So we walked around the venue. Looked at food to eat. so we mammam damn lot. Didn’t really drink beers coz we were freezing our delicates in the rain and wind. Anyways we walked down to the field where the performers were. OMFG, the whole fucking field was a mudbath. FUCKING MUDDY WEIH. Now……I’m not scared of the mud, but the hell if i’m taking the shuttle back down covered in mud. If I had a room up at the event, i wouldn’t mind wallowing in the mud. but the shuttle bus is a 45 minute ride home ok ? But it was ok, we still had fun jumping around with other ppl in front of the stage. There were only 2 performers we considered really good, this Indian group called Akasha and this other group from Portugal whose names i can’t remember.
So in the whole mob of ppl in the mud, there were a few fellers who took the mud to a new level and started throwing and rubbing it on other ppl. Fuckers look like they were having an acid trip, laughing and acting like crazy monkeys. I think along the night, 1 guy got a fat lip from someone coz i saw his face in a funny position walking to the toilet after getting decked. I mean honestly……please go ahead and have fun, but don’t fucking throw mud at ppl. If ppl wanted to get muddy, they would have done that already.
Man……lots of hot chicks. There was these group of girls with pixie haircuts………OMG….I shall say no more. too many.
But theres one thing about the event i didnt like. It was over commercialized. They had ppl like Xpax, MAS, CoffeeBean, Astro and all the other big labels there. kinda spoils the whole "rainforest" feeling.
They even had a small area for a massage parlour to open !
Event would’ve been alot better but the rain screwed everything up.
So we headed back after the event, took a shower and proceeded to drink fabulous TsingTao beer at RuaiApai, the Iban pub under our BnB.
Next day we decided to wake up late. We then went to makan more Kuching food
then we headed to Jong’s Croc Farm. I haven’t been there since i was like 10 yrs old. and man… the place has grown. not just in size but in residents. They so many animals. turtles. squirels. eagles. tailess crocs. eyeless crocs. otters. cassowary. macaques. wild boars. barking deers. sunbears. iguanas. owls. Damn cool place. OMG the otters were so cute….at first. when u went up to their cage, they’d run up to u making squeaky noises. we thought they were just friendly. until we realized they were just greedy hungry motherfuckers who wanted to eat all the food u had. and if u stop giving them food, they’d just go fucking mental ! and then they’d all start their otter symphony and make the most annoying noises in the word. at that
point, we all felt like killing and eating everyone of them. oh 1 more cool, thing, the macaques make little children noises. sounds exactly like small kids. imagine if u heard that sound in the forest, u’d shit ur pants. And then we stayed for feeding time
Fuck… crocs are menancing. I have pics on facebook to prove it. oh and i must mention about Grandfather croc who was caught in 1969 ! holy shit. the mean bastard was huge.
After croc farm, we went to makan. and everyone had seconds. we were so fucking hungry. then we wanted to go to Semenggok Animal Rehab, but…… closed d
they closed at 4pm. We got there at 430. boohoo.
So we headed back to town to shower and rest. Then my friends joined my family for a HUGE family dinner.
OMG, we were so stuffed. Really chiak beh liau.
Then headed back to town, and walked around to take in the sights. and then as usual, more TsingTao
if u haven’t noticed, we really really like TsingTao. Then we wanted to go to eat beef noodles at arnd
3am…. but closed d. boohoo.
Next day, we all woke up a bit late. then headed down to the temple at carpenter street to have the most
awesome pork satay. damn bloody good la. but it was the start of out "sueh/soi" food runs. I ordered a total of 3 times before they remembered. bloody hell. Then we went to buy all the souveniers we wanted to bring back to KL. and we shopped like crazy.
Then we went off to have some last minute food. we had the god awesome char kueh, kolok mee, "white lady", "matterhorn" and other yummies at Tabuan market. Then since got some time to kill… we actually went to play snooker
So after that sent off a few friends to the airport.
After that went for dinner with 3 good friends. Had Ochien, Fish and veggies. Then at night had emo moments over TsingTao. Many things in life and about myself made more sense to me thanks to my own personal Dr Phil
Next morning woke up and checked out damn early, as had alot of important last minute matters i had to settle before i left that afternoon. so the whole day was doing chores. then we went to have laksa at this place where all the ppl who worked there are pondans/ahkuas/tranvestites, call them what u want.
but they were nice fellers la. Some of them actually looked hot, some not so. actually there was one that was nearly flawless. His/Her hands gave her away.
Anyways after that went home and did last minute packing.
Oh…… at the airport, there was this FUCKING KURANG AJAR OLD CHINESE MAN WHO CUTS LINE. FUCKING SON OF A BITCH. HE EVEN CUT ACROSS THIS OLD MAN WHO HAD TROUBLE WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS. FUCKING KURANG
AJAR. I should have taken his picture and put his face here. hope he dies falling down a stairs in the future. I actually told him off, and he was like, then u go and walk ahead laaaaaa. fucking kurang ajar i felt like whacking him. lucky he old man. i still have manners. like him, no bloody manners.
anyways, before u know it, we were back home in KL. was so tired.
But i miss home already. I miss my folks. I miss speaking iban in the mornings. i miss drinking tuak at anytime of day. I miss my TsingTao. I miss somebody i met briefly
I miss the food. I miss many many things. But most of all, i miss my carefree days in Kuching.
Next year, I’ll be bringing a bigger group to a original longhouse along the banks of the Rejang river for Gawai Celebrations. We should have at least nearly 1 week off work to enjoy Gawai.
From KL, take a 1 hour 40 min flight to Kuching.
